I think that's the explanation I absorbed growing up in a Baptist church.
I wonder how much of it is mindless habit. I've noticed that I constantly start my prayers with "Lord God.." don't know why, but other things seem unnatural.
I've also noticed that I'm particularly...verbose...when I'm heading into the "praise" section of my prayer. And some of me thinks: "well, words are important, and I want to use them to praise God in all aspects" and another part thinks: "you're just copying everybody else for no good reason except you think it sounds better".
How often do we pray the way we pray because we are trying to impress and feel good about ourselves?
Anyways, I think I feel most like I'm actually talking to God when I'm yelling at Him. I'm not actually yelling at Him, but I'm telling it like it is and just saying what pops into my head.Allisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05259885559753606301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-811245612519910855.post-45965804594283672252009-12-22T21:19:27.076-05:002009-12-22T21:19:27.076-05:00I agree with you that sounding impassioned is the ...I agree with you that sounding impassioned is the motivation. I think that it might be passive aggressive. Perhaps worse, this funny voice phenomenon might be a sign of toadying, a buttering-up of God. I'm not sure whether that's the same as passive-aggression or not.Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03722157675784558619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-811245612519910855.post-76614821223846147192009-12-22T09:59:13.864-05:002009-12-22T09:59:13.864-05:00I think your final assertion as to the motive of t...I think your final assertion as to the motive of the funny voice is way off, at least in general; I can't speak for you. It's definitely more about sounding impassioned, thus convincing God that you really mean what you're praying.Timothy S. Milliganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04644033891188051976noreply@blogger.com
